Hi no Yōjin

Hi no Yōjin

Who is your favorite cartoon character?

Tokyo, 1887. Forty feet above the waking city, a woman watches the rooftops for smoke. She has not descended in nine days. The bell has not sounded. The sky is an unbearable blue.

Then a stranger climbs the ladder.

Two women share a wooden platform, a dented tin cup, and twenty minutes that change nothing and everything. A creased magazine. A cartoon figure who sits down again. A rope tested and not pulled.

A scene about watching, waiting, and the things we do not say. The city does not burn. The morning holds.

Come and hold your breath with us.
