If you could relive one year of your life, which one would it be?
Berlin, 1922. A smoke-dark café. Three strangers, two tables, one sugar bowl. A young poet sits with cold tea and a cracked cup. A warm man tears bread and asks a newspaper question: if you could relive one year, which would it be? An elderly widow reaches across and asks only for the sugar. What follows is not a resolution. It is a Tuesday. A door in the wall. A blue quilt. The light going, without announcement. The Sugar Bowl is about the year that cannot be relived, and the one still ahead. Come sit at the table.
